Spotlight Feature: Preeya Ogier, Founder of Curl Jar

Some of the most powerful business ideas are born from personal frustration — and for Preeya Ogier, that couldn’t be more true.

As someone with naturally curly hair, Preeya found herself caught in the endless cycle of products, treatments, and chemicals needed just to maintain her hair’s health and appearance. The more she searched for a solution, the clearer it became: nothing quite worked for her – it just became a complex routine needing several products. Instead of accepting it, she decided to create something better, something that did everything in one step, she wanted a simple ritual.

That decision became Curl Jar.

What started as a personal mission quickly evolved into a fully-fledged business – but not without its challenges. Bootstrapped by Preeya and her partner, Curl Jar took three years of dedicated development, testing, and refinement to bring to life. It wasn’t easy, and there were moments where giving up would have been the simpler option, but the vision was too strong to ignore.

The result is a product that genuinely changes the game for curly-haired women. Curl Jar is an all-in-one solution that both styles and treats hair simultaneously – simplifying routines without compromising on results. It’s salon-grade, dermatologically tested, and designed to be accessible, proving that high-quality haircare doesn’t have to come with an unattainable price tag.

What makes this story even more compelling is how organically the brand has grown. Curl specialists are now using the product within salons, recognising its effectiveness first-hand. Collaborations with Denman and pop-up activations in John Lewis have further cemented its place in the market – not just as another product, but as a brand with real impact.

And the recognition doesn’t stop there. One of Curl Jar’s most recent milestones is winning ‘Best Multi-Tasker for Curls’ at the Marie Claire Awards – a significant achievement that reflects both the product’s innovation and the dedication behind it.

Before launching Curl Jar, Preeya studied economics at university – where she also met her partner and now business partner too. That foundation, combined with lived experience and determination, has played a key role in building a brand that feels both intentional and authentic.

At its heart, Curl Jar is more than just a product. It’s a solution created with care, backed by real understanding, and built with resilience. It’s a reminder that some of the most successful businesses don’t start with a grand plan – they start with a problem that simply needs solving.

She is delighted to have won the Marie Claire award for Best Multi-Tasker For Curls recently – what recognition that is !

And if this journey so far is anything to go by, this is only the beginning.

Watch this space – Curl Jar is just getting started.
